Honeymoon Around the World

What plans have changed & our future plans

Brock & I had epic plans for a 6-Month Honeymoon Around the World. Our plans consisted of hiking Mount Everest, volunteering with Elephants in Thailand, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, and a few more things.

For our wedding, we invited guests to donate to a honeymoon fund. We received many generous gifts to help us make our dream honeymoon a reality.

As you may have noticed, some things have changed. I’ll tell you what’s changed & why our plans have been altered slightly as well as our plans for the future.

Volunteer with Elephants in Thailand

Just a few months ago, we found out that Adderall is illegal in Thailand…

We’ve been wanting to visit The Elephant Sanctuary for over 4 years, and we’ve decided to wait a little longer until after Brock has quit Adderall. The wait will certainly be worth it.

And so the adventure begins!

Hike to Mount Everest’s Basecamp

Seriously, how epic does reaching Everest’s Basecamp sound for our Honeymoon Around the World??? Our reasoning for delaying this trip is on me. I’ve been struggling with my physical movement for a while now. The only type of workout I’ve been craving is yoga.

I didn’t feel comfortable in my physical ability to Hike to Mount Everest’s Basecamp and asked Brock if we could wait until the winter.

As of April, I’ve been running several times a week, going on hikes, and of course, yogaing. I know that I still have a lot of work, but I’m happy with my progress & proud of myself!

Brock insisted that we tour Hobbiton- where Lord of the Rings was filmed.
Since I mainly make our travel decisions, I decided to let Brock choose where we went šŸ˜‚!

Scuba Dive the Great Barrier Reef

Brock & I DREAMED up ourĀ  Honeymoon Around the World. We didn’t hold ourselves back. This trip celebrating our marriage was our big shebang to live our dreams & to chase after many of our bucket list items.

Adding the Great Barrier Reef on our list was a no-brainer. In 2016, we got certified to scuba dive, and what more of an epic place to dive than the Great Barrier Reef?? Well, there is place (in my mind!)

For those of you who don’t know, this past summer, Brock had a bar placed inside his chest. He has this condition called Pectis Excavtum, it’s a condition where his chest is concaved & he’s unable to breathe at a full capacity / his heart has to work extra hard to pump blood.

Since Brock has a placed above one ribcage to the other, he’s unable to receive CPR. Meaning, he cannot scuba dive at this moment. I don’t know why we didn’t think of this before, but it is what it is.

Brock will have his bar removed in two years & that is when we’ll finally cross this bucket list item off of our list.

New Zealand – Hello Bucket List item!

What our Honeymoon Around the World Has Actually Been….

We kicked of off our honeymoon in paradise. We spent a month living & working in Bali.

After a month of struggling, we decided to pause our honeymoon.

During our time at home, we realized that our above goals weren’t possible and decided to drastically change our plans.

For a month during April & May, Brock and I explored New Zealand! We lived in a campervan & traveled the South Island. Our New Zealand trip was absolutely perfect for us- there are mountains everywhere, we are able to bring our home with us, and we had a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. We went on a helicopter ride, toured the movie set of The Lord of The Rings, and so much more.

I’ll tell you more about our adventures another day. šŸ™‚

We’re loving camping in a camper van! Traveling in your home- what’s better?

The Future of our Honeymoon Around the World

This week, Brock flew back home & I am in Finland for a yoga teacher training.

Brock is at home because he has been experiencing complications with his health. We hope that we figure out what is going on this week. He’ll meet me in Tanzania next week where we have a safari planned & then we will return back home.

Following, we plan on returning the United States, we will figure out what’s going on with Brock, move out of our town home, buy a bigger camper & travel the United States.

We’ve decided that our honeymoon isn’t really going to end. It’s not going to be an endless vacation, but rather an a journey of growth, pursuing passions, working from the road, and connecting with one another. As long as we’re still able to support ourselves financially by working on the road & still have the passion for being on the road, we’ll continue to grow through exploration.

After Brock spoke at a conference, he began experiencing a severe pain in his knee.
Throughout the last month, he’s been experiencing pain in his joints. He’ll be seeing his doctor this week where we’ll figure out what’s going on.

Changing Our Plans Hasn’t Been Easy

It has been really, really challenging. But at the end of the day, we have to do what makes sense for us… For our health, our happiness, our relationship.

This entire experience is teaching us to listen to our bodies & our intuitions. It’s teaching us to not be attached to our expectations of what our honeymoon wasĀ supposedĀ to look like, but rather, to create a honeymoon based on where our life is at this moment.

And in this moment, I want to cuddle with my husband, help him get better, & to live present in this beautiful life that we’re creating together.

Thanks for reading this week’s post. Thank you for your presence. I am grateful that you spent your last ten minutes here.
