Shasta Airflyte Reissue 2016 Vintage Camper

Recently Brock & I purchased our first travel trailer!  Here is what you need to know about the Shasta Airflyte Reissue, the pros & cons, where to buy these campers, & online resources!

As a new camper & Shasta Airflyte owner, I wish I would have had this resource before I purchased my camper.
Over & over,  I continuously find myself thinking:

What in the world was I thinking when I decided to purchase the Shasta Airflyte Riessue?

I was the driving force behind buying our camper. Traveling the U.S. in a camper has been on my bucket list for years! We were finally in a financial position where it made sense to take the leap & buy our Airflyte!
Our camper, known as “Sukha” has been with us for just under 2 months. In that time-frame, we’ve gone one plenty of adventures. We learned how to empty the black tank (a.k.a where your pee is stored.) Drove through 7 states with her. Chased the Total Solar Eclipse & camped at the phenomenal Rocky Mountain National Park.
What can I say, I’m addicted to adventure… & since you’re here, I have a feeling that you are too.
If your new to travel & the camper-lifestyle, and are feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Join me on my mailing list as we explore all things campers- from learning how to take care of a camper, boondocking, & much more

What I love about the Shasta Airflyte Reissue

It’s stinking cute. It’s everything that I wanted out of a vintage camper, yet not vintage. I wanted a camper that was small enough that our old SUV could pull it. It weighs just over 2,000 pounds.
I also wanted a camper that would be “easy”. I didn’t want to have to remodel a vintage camper,  worry about mold, or deal with rotting wood. Since it’s new, it came equipped with air conditioning, a bathroom, & a Bluetooth speaker. Don’t get me wrong, I love being immersed in nature, but I also like to have a little bit of comfort when traveling so far from home.
It by no means was “cheap” but it was affordable compared to other campers that are in the new.
Over the last month, I’ve gotten to know the community of owners. And let me tell you, they are so helpful! If you have a question regarding your Airflyte or anything RV related they’ve got your back (& an answer). This community does it all.
They build customized products for the camper. Need a rock guard? Want to add more shelves? They’ll get it done for you.
The community also send links to adorable camping merchandise. I’m not sure if this is a good thing… So far, I’ve come home with new pajamas & a Christmas ornament (…in August.)
The group is there to problem solve when things have gone awry, host meet-ups, & so much more!

Things I wish I had known before we purchased the Shasta Airflyte Reissue

Before we get into what I wish I had known… I want to address the recalls first.
This “Canned Ham Trailer” has had a lot of recalls. Especially if your trailer was produced early-on. How do you find what number your trailer was produced?  It’s the last 4 digits of the Vin number. The total number of limited models made was 1,941- mine is #1,436!
I was o.k. with their being recalls on the camper- after all, shit happens. All of the recalls had been taken care-of before I purchased our camper.
There’s a lot to purchase with owning a camper…
The tires aren’t very high quality (or so I’ve been told…) I’ll be buying new, durable tires in the future- after all, safety first!
The windows are relatively thin & easily cracked. Guess that means I’ll be purchasing a rock guard to put over the windows.
I’m sure more items will surface as I learn more about being a camper owner.
Other add-ons that I purchased…
-A sway bar (this camper sways A LOT while towing)
-A generator to have access to electricity when boondocking
-Black-out liners for the curtains
To get a complete list of items that I’ve purchased for Sukha, our Shasta Airflyte Reissue read Shasta Airflyte Reissue & New Camper Owners Gear Guide- article coming next Sunday, Oct. 1st. Sign up here to get an email when it comes out.
Another thing that I wish I had known beforehand is how many inquistive conversations I’d get from strangers…
Everyone is intrigued with this cute little girl. Every gas station, someone approaches my hubby to ask about our camper. A fellow owner, Christy states “I wish I had known that every fuel stop would involve at LEAST a 10 minute conversation with nice strangers and probably a tour… We have a 16′ Matador that we (and our two cats) adore! Owning that little camper is one of the best things to happen to us.”
